The Level 4 Certificate in Education and Training is a requirement for anyone looking to work in a teaching role in an Ofqual regulated learning institute.
It is a nationally recognised qualification that allows you to progress to the Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training, bringing you closer to becoming a Qualified Teacher Learning and Skills (QTLS).

This cet course is designed for people teaching in both the private training industry and in educational institutes. It is ideal if you work or want to work as a teacher or trainer in the Further Education and Skills Sector such as:
- Learners who have just started a teaching/training role
- Teachers/trainers who are seeking career progression in their area of work
- Those working with learners on a one-to-one basis
Learners who teach in the industry already - Learners who have already achieved some Education and Training units that can be counted in this qualification as recognition of prior learning (RPL)
- Assessors who wish to achieve a teaching/training qualification
How will i be assessed?
All assignments are completed online, and there are no set deadlines. You are free to study at your own pace and will be fully supported by your tutor.
You will be required to have access to 30 hours of teaching practice whilst on the course. If you have completed any teaching in the past 12 months, we will be able to take this into consideration.
You will be observed for a total of 3 hours during your course. This can be by one of your colleagues if they hold a Level 4 teaching qualification, a PGCE, Cert Ed or equivalent.

Course content
CET teaching qualification
The course explores skills development and embedded approaches to learning. You will learn how to:
- Develop the skills that underpin literacy, language, numeracy and ICT and use them to help learners succeed in their studies.
- Encourage the development of inclusive practices when addressing the literacy, language, numeracy and ICT needs of learners.
- Raise awareness of the benefits of developing embedded approaches to teaching, learning and assessment of English, maths and ICT.
- Provide signposts to useful materials which will support collaborative working with specialist teachers of literacy, language, numeracy and ICT in understanding how to integrate these skills within other areas of specialism.

- Planning to Meet the Needs of Learners in Education and Training

- Teaching in a Specialist Area

How long will it take?
The guided learning hours for this CET course are 140 hours, we recommend a study time allocation of 4 hours per week which on average should see you complete in approximately 6 months. There are no set deadlines, you study at your own pace.

This always depends on the amount of time that you have to allocate to study per week. On average it will take 3-6 months to complete the course.
Yes, the L4 CET is an Ofqual Regulated Qualification (RQF), fully recognised and accredited course.
This is a UK based qualification, however we have learners completing this course from many different countries. UK qualifications are sought-after internationally.
Certificate processing times can vary. We allow up to 3 weeks, however, certificates often arrive sooner than this. Future Step can provide a letter confirming completion in the meantime if required.
Yes, you will receive both a digital and hard copy of your certificate.
The Level 4 Certificate is a reflective practice course. It is designed for a current practitioner within teaching who is looking to develop their skills. The level 3 Award is an entry level qualification for prospective teachers / trainers who firstly need to learn the basics of delivering effective lessons.
30 hours of teaching needs to be logged and verified by a work colleague from within the organisation the hours were delivered.
In total you will be required to submit three hours of observed teaching practice.
The course is assessed by written answers, teaching logs, observations and portfolio-based evidence. It all leads to the nationally accredited Level 4 Certificate in Education & Training (QCF), with the possibility to progress onto the Level 5 Diploma in Teaching.
Learners must be 19 years of age and be in a current teaching or training role or are about to start one. You will need a suitably qualified colleague, who has the L4 CET or equivalent or above, to complete your teaching observations and a copy of their certificate will be required to submit with your final portfolio. Future Step provides full information and guidance to observers.
