Level 5 Diploma in Education and Training (DET/DTLLS) + L3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement + L4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice
The Future Step FE teacher training programme includes a package of three qualifications to elevate your career as an educator.
Each qualification is built into our 12 month programme. On completion you will be ready to take the next step on your teaching journey.
Entry requirements
All L5 DET students must be able to meet the requirement for 100 hours of teaching practice plus the requirement for observation and assessment of performance.
The integrated Level 4 IQA course will require access to two assessors to quality assure their assessment practice.

What time
commitment is required?
In order to comply with the programme assessment plan a minimum of 4 hours per week allocated study time is required. In addition to this, we strongly encourage you to attend all scheduled webinars. Times/days of webinars are confirmed prior to programme start date.
Please note that there may be times during this study programme where additional weekly study time is required. These periods will be outlined on the programme assessment plan.

How will I be assessed? (L5 DET)
This qualification is assessed in several ways:
8 observations of your teaching. These observations are normally completed by another teacher acting as an expert witness.
100 hours of classroom teaching experience. A teaching hours log will be required.
Assignments for each of the nine units in this qualification. The assignments range from 2000-4000 words and some also have product evidence requirements such as lesson plans, teaching resources and other associated paperwork.

Students will be required to have access to 100 hours of teaching practice whilst on the course. Any teaching completed in the past 12 months can be taken into consideration.
There is a requirement to be observed whilst on the course for a total of 8 hours. You can be observed by one of your suitably qualified colleagues. Future Step Education may also be able to provide you with a person for observations.

On successful completion of this study programme you will achieve three recognised, fully accredited qualifications/certificates – Level 5 Diploma in Education & Training (DET) (RQF). Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) (RQF) and The Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practice (RQF)
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the course recognised and accredited?
Yes. The awarding body for the qualification is Focus Awards who are regulated by Ofqual and recognised by The Society for Education and Training
Is this qualification recognised abroad?
Generally speaking, yes it is, although we can’t with 100% certainty ensure that every learning institute around the world will accept the L5 DET for advertised teaching roles. However, what we can tell you is that we currently have learners working for organisations and completing their L5 DET study programme located in China, Japan, Dubai, Portugal, South Africa and New Zealand.
Is the advertised course price inclusive of all costs?
Yes. Everything is included in the price advertised.
How long does the course take?
There really is no accurate answer to that question. It is completely determined by the number of hours you can allocate to weekly study and the pace of your own study in general. We say approximately 12 months as this is an average across our learners. Our fasted recorded completion time was 3 months on our self-paced study programme.
Is there a time limit on how long I have to complete?
No, you have lifetime access
Can this course lead to QTLS and do you provide any support with this process?
Yes, you can apply for QTLS on completion once your certificate has arrived. We deliver a workshop on applying for QTLS that you will have access to towards the end of your course. This will provide you with all the information that you need to make a successful application.
Will my tutor be available to answer questions when I have them?
Yes, you can contact your tutor whenever you like. Our tutors will always aim to respond the same working day but you’ll always hear back from them within 24 hours (Mon-Fri)
Can I start the course without a teaching placement?
Yes. However, we recommend that you are in a teaching/training role when you begin the course.
